HOUTZDALE – The Houtzdale Days 2020 celebration has been cancelled.
The announcement was made by the Houtzdale Community Partnership Association (HCPA) with the “deepest regrets” on the Houtzdale Days official Facebook page.
[We] made the difficult decision to cancel,” the post said. “This was very hard … it was voted on and decided [that] this would be the best course of action for our community.”
The post said public safety is of the utmost importance “more than anything,” adding time and funds will now be spent on a “huge” downtown Christmas event.
It was also noted that this will possibly hinge upon the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and any applicable regulations that may still be in place then.
“Our small community has been affected by the pandemic as well as surrounding areas,” the post said. “It’s unrealistic to safely maintain distance, keep sanitized and ensure the number of people.”
The HCPA committee would like to thank the Houtzdale Fire Co. for its support throughout the events and this difficult time. All event donations and vendor funds will be returned.
