CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors held their meeting Tuesday with members of the press joining in virtually while the supervisors, secretary, roadmaster and solicitor participated in the township building.
Following in the footsteps of Clearfield County, the township agreed to extend the deadline to pay spring property taxes to Oct. 30. This will not change any deadline for the fall taxes.
Under the roadmaster’s report, the supervisors learned that paving will begin soon. Roads to be paved include Hill Street Extension, 21st Street and a portion of Industrial Park Road, near CNB Bank.
Roadmaster Ron Woodling also informed the supervisors that a grant through the dirt and gravel program appears to be on the table again.
The township would like to use the money to replace a bridge on Pifer Road, which would include removing a dangerous sharp turn.
The township has been discussing hiring a different engineering firm since reorganizing in January. The supervisors have not been happy with the services of long-time engineering firm, Stiffler McGraw.
During the meeting, Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner made a motion to hire Keller Engineers Inc. for the remainder of 2020 and to revisit the matter at the beginning of 2021, which was approved.
The supervisors also discussed implementing a plan for everyone in the township to have garbage pick-up.
One suggestion was to enact a tax that would result in the township hiring a garbage company to pick up for every residence in the township. The matter will be discussed further at future meetings.
