Thomas R. Date Sr., 77, of Smoke Run, died Thursday at his residence.
Born on Oct. 28, 1932, he was the son of the late James E. and Mary T. (Phillips) Date. He was Methodist by faith.
He served in the United States Army and was a Private First Class (PFC) in Germany during the Korean War with the 373 Armored Infantry.
He was the owner and operator of Date Towing. He also had worked as a machinist for Piper Aircraft Quehanna through 1984. He then operated the Madera Amoco Gas Station from 1985 to 1995. He was a graduate of the Madera High School in 1951
Mr. Date married the former Myra J. John on April 23, 1955 in Bristol. He is survived by his wife, Myra J. Date of Smoke Run; two sons, Tom R. Date Jr. and his wife, Sue of Smoke Run and Kevin J. Date and his wife, Frances of Ramey; and one daughter, Lisa A. Wilson and her husband, Larry Jr. of Glasgow.
He is survived by eight grandchildren, Brandye Veresheck, Katlynn Mildler, Thomas R. Date III, Joshua Date, Meghan Date, Noah Date, Larry Wilson III and Sarah Myers. He is survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition, Mr. Date is survived by two sisters, Betty Bedekovich and Morrell Date, whom are both of Levittown, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Karen Myers, who died on June 25, 2008.
Friends will be received from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 – 11 a.m. Monday at the Kruise Funeral Homes, Inc., Ramey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dennis L. McCracken officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard at 10:45 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Hegarty Crossroads Cemetery, Beccaria Township.
