The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting motorists that Interstate 80 eastbound is closed between the Clearfield/Penfield exit at mile-marker 111 and the Clearfield/Shawville exit at mile-marker 120. The road is closed due to a jackknifed tractor-trailer.
Traffic is being diverted off the interstate at exit 111 and will follow Route 153 before reconnecting with I-80 at Clearfield/Shawville interchange.
The detour is expected to be in place for several hours. PennDOT will issue an update once the closure has been lifted.
To help make decisions regarding winter travel, motorists are encouraged to “Know Before You Go” by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com.
511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 950 traffic cameras. Users can also see plow truck statuses and travel alerts along a specific route using the “Check My Route” tool.
511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA Web site.
PennDOT reminds motorists to pack an emergency kit for their vehicles. A basic kit should include non-perishable food, water, blanket, small shovel and warm clothes. When preparing an emergency kit, motorists should consider special needs of passengers such as baby food, pet supplies or medications and pack accordingly.
PennDOT has created a Winter Safety media center, including social-media-sized graphics highlighting winter driving preparations and operations at www.penndot.gov in the “Media Center” under the “About Us” footer.
