SAINT MARYS — The confidence of the Clearfield Lady Bison was higher than it had been all season after their first win since late December this past Friday night. Hoping to feel that carry over into a new week of competition, the Lady Bison found themselves on the road for the fourth consecutive game, this time making the trip out for a non-league contest against the Saint Marys Lady Dutch.
That confidence quickly became a catastrophe as the Lady Dutch took the lead early, and never wavered the entire night as they handed Clearfield its 12th loss on the season, routing the Lady Bison, 59-23.
That rout began in the first quarter when Clearfield saw their opposition quadruple their scoring output. The Lady Chucks dropped 20 points in the opening stanza, while holding the Lady Bison to just five, with three of those points coming at the foul line.
That opening frame deflated the Bison, as they only managed another five points in the second quarter. Although they held Saint Marys to eight points, they were still facing an 18-point gap at halftime.
For Clearfield, it was Megan Durandetta leading them in scoring, draining eight points on the night, including six from deep range. Emma Hipps was the closest to Durandetta as she added in another five points.
Saint Marys won the third quarter much like they did in the first, as they capitalized on the lack of scoring by Clearfield to take the quarter, 16-3.
The Lady Dutch were paced by Isabelle Cosley, who dropped a game-high 17 points, including three buckets from deep range.
Clearfield (3-12) finishes its five-game road trip on Wednesday night as they travel to face Huntingdon, who beat Clearfield back on December 13 by a score of 67-20. Tip off is at 6 p.m. for junior varsity, with varsity following.
