WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
NEW WILMINGTON — Geneva freshman Abby LaBorde (Clearfield) earned 2019 All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference Second Team honors by placing 14th at the championship meet hosted by Westminster Saturday.
She ran the six-kilometer course in 24:48.44 to help the Golden Tornadoes to a second-place finish with 40 points, just four behind four-time champion Waynesburg.
Geneva sophomores Elly McGillivray (23:05.40) and Jessie Taylor (23:30.18) achieved first-team recognition by placing second and fifth, respectively, while LaBorde was joined on the second seven by freshman Mariah Davis, eighth in 23:52.69, and senior Jennifer Simmons, 11th in 23:20.61.
The five Golden Tornadoes were separated by just 1:43.04.
Led by individual champion Aubrey Wingeart (22:51.60), Waynesburg had four point-getters in the top nine with the fifth placing 13th.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
INDIANA — Sophomore Paige Mikesell (Clearfield) was a doublewinner for Indiana University of Pennsylvania as the Crimson Hawks posted their first win in three dual meets, 133-70, over Saint Vincent Saturday.
Mikesell touched in a season-best 57.12 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly and swam the fly leg for the 200 medley relay team that won in 1:50.82.

MEN’S SWIMMING
PITTSBURGH — Sophomore Chase Bietz (Clearfield) was victorious in 55.67 seconds in his first 100-yard butterfly race as undefeated Penn State Behrend overwhelmed host Chatham 164-10 Saturday for its third victory.
Bietz also swam exhibition in the 50 freestyle (21.47) as well as the 200 medley (1:51.58) and 400 freestyle (3:21.47) relays. All times were would have earned first-place points.

SHIPPENSBURG — Sophomore Tate Swanson (Clearfield) turned in a 23.29-second opening leg for the Clarion 200-yard freestyle relay team that was victorious in 1:32.79 against Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference meet Friday.
The Golden Eagles came out on the short end of a 112-90 final, falling to 1-2.
Swanson also picked up a point by placing fifth in the 50 freestyle in 23.44. He anchored the ‘B’ 200 medley foursome that finished fourth in 4:03.
Sophomore Hayden Steiner (Clearfield) swam the butterfly leg for the ‘B’ medley team. He earned fourth-place points with a 2:07.93 trip in the 200 fly and placed sixth in the 50 free in 24.05. Both times were his fastest of the season.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
ERIE — Sophomore goalkeeper Madi Jones (Clearfield) didn’t have to face a shot during the first half of Penn State Behrend’s 7-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win over visiting Hilbert (N.Y.) last week.
Morgan Harding and Brianna Rathbun were between the pipes in the final 45 minutes as the Lions finished second in the AMCC at 8-1-1 and closed the regular season at 9-6-2.
They’ll host No. 3 seed Mount Aloysius, a 1-0 winner over Franciscan (Ohio) Saturday, in the AMCC Championship Tournament semifinals Wednesday, while regular season titlist Pitt-Greensburg will host No. 4 seed D’Youville (N.Y.). The championship will be decided Saturday.
Jones, whose record is 9-2-2, sports a 0.97 goals-against average, third best in the AMCC, for 1,112.02 minutes in 13 starts. She has allowed 12 goals and made 28 saves.

INDIANA — Freshman forward/midfielder Alayna Ryan (Clearfield) was credited with one shot on goal for Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division loss to visiting Pitt-Johnstown last Wednesday.
She made her 13th consecutive start in a 4-0 victory over Mercyhurst at Erie Saturday.
Ryan has played in 16 games for the Crimson Hawks (10-6, 8-6 PSAC-West) and scored 10 points on three goals, two of them game-winners, and four assists. Nine of her 15 shots have been on goal.

FOOTBALL
SHIPPENSBURG — Senior linebacker Christian Rumery (Woodland/Clearfield Area H.S.) made one solo tackle for Lock Haven in a 65-32 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division loss to Shippensburg in front of 2,734 fans at Seth Grove Stadium Saturday.
The Bald Eagles have lost eight games in a row, six in the PSAC-East, since winning their opener.
Rumery has appeared in every game, logging three solo tackles and four assists.
