CLEARFIELD – Housing and finances continue to be a concern for the Clearfield County Prison Board.
Controller Tom Adamson reported that year-to-date income at the jail is $38,432 while expenses thus far are $2,455,864.94.
A breakdown of the inmate population as of Monday include 75 pre-trial detainees, 34 county-sentenced inmates, 22 awaiting parole revocations, six for domestic sentences, four for magistrate sentences, 15 under fail to appear bench warrants, four under bail revokes, 18 awaiting state transfer and one awaiting extradition.
During sentencing court on Monday, two additional inmates were put on the list awaiting transfer to state facilities.
There are 31 inmates being housed in Jefferson county, 30 sentenced and one pre-trial. Four additional inmates are being housed elsewhere, bringing the total to 214.
Warden Gregory Collins reported that July began with 173 inmates with 154 committed and 160 released, ending with 173. There were 34 on home detention in July. Also, work release began with seven participants with two added and five paroled.
Medical expenses and housing at Jefferson County are the biggest expenditures for CCJ. Medical bills topped $28,211.32 with the biggest expense coming from Community Pharmacy at $20,592.54. The bill to house inmates at Jefferson County was at $63,635.
President Judge Fredric Ammerman noted that the only extraordinary occurrence was an attempted escape last month. He thanked the staff and administrators for their quick and effective response, noting that none of the corrections officers were hurt.
The board also briefly discussed resignations of William MacDonald as a full-time CO and beginning as a part-time CO, Gregory Hallstrom II as a temporary full-time CO and also the discontinuing of employment of Georgia Colberg as nurse, effective July 15.
It was briefly noted that Colberg had submitted a letter dictating several concerns and complaints and that a personnel committee meeting would be held Wednesday to further discuss the matter.
Commissioner Mark McCracken informed the board that the commissioners have received two applications for the position of nurse at the jail and he said he has talked with both and he is hopeful that the commissioners will be able to fill the position soon.
