CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County Comissioner and former 5CD Democrat Candidate Mark McCracken responded to the recent news of the death Bill Cahir, whom he ran against in the Democratic Primary in May 2008.
McCracken wrote the following:
“My family and I are deeply saddened by the death of Bill Cahir. Even though Bill and I were political opponents in last year’s Democratic primary election for a seat in the US Congress, we became very close friends throughout the process. After I was selected to be the Democratic nominee for the November election, Bill fully supported my campaign and made several appearances speaking on my behalf and campaigning by my side in Centre County and in the State College area.
“Bill’s life and actions are an inspiration for everyone. He is a man who showed true courage and commitment to his country by joining the military in his early 30’s and serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Then, he wanted to give even more by returning to his hometown to run for a seat in the United States Congress. By his actions alone, he shows what a truly honorable and decent man he is.
“My wife Kelly, daughter Amanda and I are keeping Bill, his wife and his parents in our thoughts and prayers.”
