HUNTINGDON — Kyra Mollura drove in four runs and Emma Hipps recorded double-digit strikeouts for the seventh time in 10 starts as the Clearfield Area High School softball team got back on the winning track by defeating Huntingdon 9-4 Tuesday.
The Lady Bison made the most of their seven hits in the Mountain League game, with Mollura’s three-run double in the sixth inning capping their sixth win in 11 games.
Hipps chimed in with two hits, including a solo home run in the third inning that was her fifth of the season.
In the circle, the freshman right-hander rang up 13 strikeouts while giving up six hits, three walks and three earned runs for her fifth victory in 10 decisions.
The Lady Bearcats (1-9) bunched four of their hits for all of their runs in the third frame with Lauren Heintzelman, Destiny Biemesderfer and Lauryn Smith registering RBIs.
By then, Clearfield already had struck for two of its three-run salvos.
An error, four walks and Casey English’s run-producing single got the Lady Bison rolling in the second inning.
In addition to Hipps’ leadoff homer in the third frame, Mollura had a sacrifice fly.
The Lady Bison will host undefeated Philipsburg-Osceola Friday at 4:30 p.m.
