CURWENSVILLE — After belting a double in a pinch-hit role, Ally Hess scored with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Curwensville Area High School softball team a 10-9 walk-off win over Johnsonburg at Riverside Field Thursday.
Hess beat Jordan Bundy to the third base bag on a hard chopper by Abby Pentz and raced home with the winning run when Pentz broke for second and drew a throw.
The Lady Tide had tied the Northern Allegany League Small School Southern Division game in the inning before when Baily Bloom singled to chase home Pentz, who had singled and advanced on a stolen base.
Johnsonburg (6-2) grabbed its first lead with five runs in the top of the sixth as Haylee Zimmerman doubled in one, Lindsey Kocjancic doubled in a pair and Alyssa Kasmierski tripled home two more.
Curwensville owned leads of 3-0 in the second inning when Taylor Luzier blasted a home run that cleared the concession stand behind the center field fence with one on, 4-3 after three and 8-4 after five.
Joslynne Freyer’s two-run double was the key hit in the four-run fifth. Bella Guiffre and McKenzie Wall followed with RBI doubles.
Freyer was the winning hurler, striking out 11 while walking six and giving up 11 hits.
The Lady Tide collected 19 hits, including four apiece by Pentz and Freyer. Guiffre had three, and Bloom, Wall and Luzier each had two.
Curwensville, 6-2 with a 6-1 division record, will host front-running DuBois Central Catholic Tuesday.
