CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Borough Council has opted to take no action on proposed zoning changes.
At Monday’s meeting, the council discussed proposed changes to zoning on Susquehanna Avenue, on North Street and on Irvin Hill.
The Curwensville Borough Planning Commission has proposed changing Susquehanna Avenue from bridge to bridge from two-household residential to neighborhood commercial.
The commission also proposes changing North Street to George Street from two-household residential to downtown commercial and the former “Beagle Club” property on Irwin Hill from single household residential to multi-household residential.
Council president Sara Curulla said she was against the proposed changes. Council member Harriet Carfley said she would consider changing the far end of Susquehanna Avenue but wanted to keep the other end as it is.
Council members Rhonda Carfley, Tom Carfley and Robbie Moore also said they wanted to keep the zoning the same.
Mayor John Adams said the changes were suggested as a way to encourage more businesses to locate in town. However, Adams also said that at this time, there were no businesses looking to locate in the areas where the changes were proposed. He said if any businesses wanted to locate in the borough, they could be considered on a “case by case” basis.
Also, at the meeting, the council voted to approve:
- Allowing the Potter All-Star baseball team to do a clean-up in Irvin Park on July 3.
- An agreement with Lawrence Township for the Leaf Vac.
