PUNXSUTAWNEY — Alec Greenblatt singled home Tyler Park in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Punxsutawney/Brookville a 4-3 walk-off win and a sweep of Clearfield in their Jefferson County Legion League doubleheader at Kuntz Field Thursday night.
The John Lewis Shade Post 6 Chiefs out-hit their hosts 14-10 in the opener but came out on the short end of a 10-7 final.
Clearfield’s fourth error of the nightcap set up the deciding run. Park advanced to third base on a passed ball and steal while Reese Wilson was walking Daren Byers before Greenblatt delivered his hit that also made him the winning pitcher.
Wilson was a tough-luck loser as only one of the Punxsutawney/Brookville’s runs was earned.
He pitched a seven-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Punxsutawney/Brookville had jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two innings on Tanner LaBenne’s two-run single in the first and Seth Dunkle’s RBI single in the second.
Clearfield’s run in the second was the result of a wild pitch by Logan Johnston following a walk, a single by Hayden Williams and a forceout.
Singles by Williams, Alec Graham and Nate Barr made it 3-2 in the fourth.
After Park worked two scoreless innings in relief of Johnston, Greenblatt came on to pitch in the seventh and gave up the tying run when he issued two walks and plunked Williams with Wilson aboard via a single.
However, he atoned for the blown save with his game-winning single.
Wilson and Williams each had a pair of hits for the Chiefs, who slipped under .500 at 4-5 with a 1-3 league record.
They owned a short-lived 7-6 lead in the first game by pouring across five runs off Isaac Stouffer in the top of the fourth inning.
Cade Walker triggered the rally with his first hit as a Chief, and Barr, Wilson and Harrison Peacock came through with RBI singles around bases-loaded walks to Allan Myers and Williams.
Joey Dipietro relieved and stranded three runners with a strikeout and went on to blank the Chiefs to pick up the win when his teammates responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
LaBenne turned three walks, one intentional, by Eli Glass into runs with a bases-clearing double and then scored on a single by Stouffer.
Hunter Dixon pitched two hitless, scoreless innings in relief of Glass, who allowed 10 hits and the three free passes with three strikeouts.
Barr, Wilson and Glass had three hits apiece at the top of the lineup, and Williams added two more, but the Chiefs stranded 11 runners.
Their other runs were driven in by Peacock with a groundout in the second frame and Seth Bumbarger with a sacrifice fly in the third.
Punxsutawney/Brookville led 6-2 after three innings on RBI hits by LaBenne and Chase Palmer, a two-run single by Dunkle and a sacrifice fly by Park.
The Chiefs will be back at home Friday to tangle with the Curwensville Joshua Earl Sipes Post 505 Bucks.
