CURWENSVILLE – Three days, five games, back to back doubleheaders. And with all that action the Curwensville girls softball team earned all five wins.
The Lady Tide defeated Harmony on the road Monday, swept a doubleheader on Tuesday in Sheffield, and Wednesday won another double header, this time against visiting Kane, 14-0 and 7-6.
With the two victories against the Lady Wolves, Curwensville now has an 11-7 record on the 2018 campaign with two games left for next week.
GAME 1
It was Tide pitcher Clerissia Cole with a strong performance in game one, with a five inning, one hit shutout without issuing any bases on balls.
And of course, you can’t forget about the Lady Tide bats either.
After being blanked in the first inning Curwensville went to work at the plate with two runs in the second frame and a huge 11-run salvo in the third.
Ariel Zattoni scored the game’s first run, in the second, for the Lady Tide, after a one out single to be followed one out later with an RBI double for Emma Caldwell.
Caldwell then scored on a single by right fielder Keisha Maines.
Everyone got into the act in the third as Curwensville batted around to tally 11 more times.
The 11 runs came on just four hits for the Lady Tide, all singles, while receiving three walks and two hit batsmen.
Pinch hitter Ally Hess and catcher Bailey Bloom each smacked a two run single that were the biggest blows of the inning.
Curwensville would tack on another run in the bottom of the fourth, its final score, in the 14-0 win.
Caldwell had the game’s only extra base hit, the double in the second inning.
Keisha Maines had two hits for the Lady Tide that drove in two runs.
Caldwell also had two RBIs for Curwensville.
The lone hit for Kane was a harmless single in the top half of the third inning by Trista King.

GAME 2
Game two was of the more, shall we say, competitive nature, as the Lady Tide held on for the 7-6 squeaker and the sweep of the Lady Wolves who dropped to 4-8 on the season.
Curwensville, visitors in game two, did strike first in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning.
Ariel Zattoni started things with a lead off single then would score on a double by Emma Caldwell who would later score on an Anne Hoover single.
The Lady Tide would stretch the margin to 4-0 after the top half of the third when it scored another two runs highlighted by singles from Abby Pentz and Bailey Bloom.
Pentz scored on a passed ball, while Bloom came home on a fielder’s choice by Zattoni.
Kane started to crawl back into the battle by scoring two times in the bottom of the third, making it 4-2 in favor of the Tide after three.
The Tide tacked on its fifth run in the top of the fourth when Hoover reached base on a two out single to right field and then came across home plate thanks to a single by Pentz to left field.
Two more Curwensville runs came in the top of the sixth thanks to a lead off triple by first baseman Lauren Tozer who then scored on a single by Zattoni.
Logan Sheeder then drove home Zattoni with the Tide’s final run of the game with a base hit.
It was now 7-2 in favor of the Lady Tide, a lead that, at the time, seemed fairly safe.
Showing no quit, however, in game two, the Lady Wolves got a big blow in the bottom of the fifth with no outs on a three run home run to left field by Ella Marconi making the score now 7-5 with the Tide still in front.
At this point Curwensville head coach Allen Leigey removed starter Rachel LeGars and brought in game one pitching hero Clerissia Cole to shut down the Wolves.
Kane, making things very interesting, made it a one run game, 7-6, with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Cole then retired the Lady Wolves in the bottom of the seventh, one, two, three, to pick up the save and enable Curwensville to gain the win.
Pentz went four for four in the second game with Zattoni, Hoover and Caldwell getting two hits each.
Besides the double, Caldwell also had a fourth inning triple.
Kane was paced by Marconi and Rachel Haight with two hits each and Marconi driving in four of the six runs for the Lady Wolves.
After five games in three days the Lady Tide get a break before taking a road trip to Johnsonburg on Tuesday for a 4:15 pm game.
