DUBOIS – Like most, if not all, area high school outdoor sporting events for this year have seen some very uncooperative weather that has really backed up schedules.
The Curwensville Area High School girls softball team is no different, as the Lady Tide played in DuBois on Wednesday against DuBois Central Catholic (DCC). And for Curwensville it was its eighth game over the past 10 days. Basically, just like a Major League Baseball team schedule.
In the end though, it was the Lady Cardinals picking up the mercy rune rule win in five innings over the Tide, 13-2, and remain unbeaten at 14-0.
And, for Curwensville, it was the third straight defeat, leaving the Lady Tide with an overall 2018 record of 6-7.
The Lady Tide started out like a team possessed to be the first to knock off the unbeaten Lady Cardinals as the first five hitters got base hits and gave Curwensville its two runs.
Sabrina Spencer and Abby Pentz each had a one pitch double to start things rolling for the Lady Tide. And then the door was nailed shut by starting and winning pitcher Ashley Wruble. No more hits and no more runs for the Tide.
DCC made sure quickly that the Lady Tide were not going to be the ones to blemish its perfect record by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Lady Cardinals added two more tallies in the bottom of the fourth and ended the game with four in the fifth thanks to a three run home run by Mia Meholick who ended the day with five RBI’s.
Meholick led DCC with four hits while teammate Shay Gulvas picked up three base hits.
Wruble had a triple and Meholick also banged a double for DuBois Central Catholic.
Finally, a rest for the Lady Tide, as they are off until Monday when they travel to Harmony to play the Lady Owls. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
