BOSWELL – After a long road trip to Boswell that started at 7 am Saturday morning, the Curwensville girls softball team didn’t actually respond at the start of the contest with North Star.
Then, a good old fashioned talk by head coach Allen Leigey after the second inning got the Lady Tide moving in the right direction to pick up a 7-2 victory.
As Leigey said, “We warmed up terrible, and we played terrible for the first two innings. Then with a little encouragement we kicked it into gear and started to play well the remainder of the game. I wasn’t sure if it was the third game in three days, the early and long ride or what, but we shook it off to pick up the win.”
The Lady Tide got single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings before putting the game away with three tallies in the top of the seventh.
Leigey then commented, saying, “We really had some nice plays on defense that helped us jell as a team. So, after the slow start, I was pleased with how we rebounded.”
Clerissia Cole picked up the win in the circle with relief assistance from Rachel LeGars for Curwensville.
Sabrina Spencer had three hits for Curwensville while Mackenzie Anderson came up with two.
Second baseman Keisha Maines had a double and two RBI’s for the Lady Tide.
The Lady Cougars, who out hit the Tide 10-8, picked up three hits from Maria Barnick and two each from Laikyn Will and Julie Orlandi.
Hana Vish smacked a double for North Star.
On Monday the Lady Tide (6-4) have a home date with the Glendale Lady Vikings. Game time is 4:15 pm.
