HYDE — The Clearfield and Bellefonte schoolgirl softball teams hooked up in their second slugfest in three days, and unfortunately for the Lady Bison, the outcome was the same even though Aspen Bishop and Kate Lansberry clubbed home runs for the third game in a row.
The Lady Raiders matched those two homers and also belted 10 doubles and a triple among their 22 hits in a wild 20-9 victory that kept them tied with Philipsburg-Osceola atop the Mountain League.
Rianna Trexler starred for the winners by driving in seven runs with a home run and two singles.
No less than five of her teammates had at least three hits, too, with Lissy Przybys and Lexi Rogers having four and three RBIs, respectively.
For Clearfield (4-6, 3-5 ML), Lansberry and Brooke Cline had three hits apiece while Bishop and Abby Fedder chipped in with two apiece. Lansberry and Bishop matched three-RBI efforts.
Rogers’ two-run double staked Bellefonte (11-1, 8-1 ML) to a quick lead, but the Lady Bison responded with four runs on a walk and five hits, the last two a two-run single by Bishop and a tie-breaking two-run double by Makayla Ross.
The teams traded pairs of runs in the second inning, Trexler knotting the score with a two-run single and Bishop answering with her home run after Cline singled with two outs.
Clearfield came out of the third inning ahead 7-5 after Lansberry socked a two-out homer to offset a solo shot by Rogers.
Bellefonte went in front to stay in the fourth on Trexler’s home run with two teammates aboard and Rogers’ two-run double.
A two-run double by Trexler made it 12-7 in the top of the fifth, but Lansberry got those two runs back for the Lady Bison with a single.
Then, the Lady Raiders broke it open with a six-run outburst in the sixth with Mallorie Smith, Maddie Tice and Przybys chasing home two apiece.
Bellefonte tacked on the final two runs in the seventh on Trexler’s third hit.
Rogers was the winning pitcher, striking out six and walking three.
Lady Bison starter Abby Fedder pitched into the fourth inning and was charged with the loss. She came back to work the final 2-1/3 frames after relieving Erica Hanes.
The Lady Bison will be back in action Saturday at Wingate when they visit Bald Eagle Area for a league make-up game starting at noon.
