Marie H. Hemmis, 93, of Smithmill died Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at her home. Born May 31, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John and Clara (Bell) Delfosse.
In July of 1951, she married James R. Hemmis in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death in 1955.
She was a member of the Janesville United Methodist Church. She worked at JBC Sewing from 1955-1970.
After that, she worked at Proctor Silex from 1970 until she retired in 1984. She was a life member of the Janesville Veterans of Foreign Wars’ ladies auxiliary.
She is survived by two children, John J. (Betty) Martin of Madera and Dee (Gary) Yarger of Morgan Run; seven grandchildren, Richard Martin Jr., John Martin Jr., Jerry Hewitt, Robert Martin, Lori Ann Williams, Dawn Kuren and Tim Robertson; two step-children, Amy Templeton and Clint Yarger; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Martin in 2009; one brother, John Delfosse; and eight sisters, Edith Waite, Kathryn Waite, Eldora Davies, Virginia Solan, Cora Kopilchack, Mae Kramp, Barbara Jean Delfosse and Clara Belle Snyder.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., Ramey.
A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Clare Pannebaker will officiate, and burial will follow in Allemansville Cemetery.
