Players must participate in at least 70 percent of their teams’ games to be eligible to be honored by D9Sports.com, an independent media site not affiliated with the district or the PIAA in any way, that is in its 18th season of covering high school athletics within District 9.
Chambers averaged 24.9 points, second in the district, while leading Coudersport (23-4) to its second straight District 9 Class AA championship, topping that number 15 times, including six 30-point performances.
The Falcon junior shot 52.6 percent from the floor, even though 216 of his 456 attempts were from behind the three-point line. He made 94 of those three-pointers and was 97-for-107 (90.7 percent) at the foul line.
Chambers, who will go into his senior season with 1,439 career points, also averaged 5.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 steals.
Beighley, a freshman, led two-time District 9 Class AAA champion Karns City with 13.2 points and 3.9 assists per game to earn the Rookie of the Year Award, which is reserved for freshmen or sophomores who saw little or no time as freshmen.
He made 48 three-pointers and averaged 2.5 steals for the 17-8 Gremlins, who were Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference runners-up after winning the South Division title.
Glover’s selection as Coach of the Year was the result of Austin’s amazing turnaround season.
The Panthers, who were 2-20 last season, finished 13-10 for the program’s first winning record since 2003-04. The next 13 Austin teams were a combined 19-271.
