William Edwin Hurley, 84, of Morrisdale died Saturday, March 10, 2018 at home.
He was born May 3, 1933 at the Hurley homestead, a son of the late Robert S. and Bernice (Hubler) Hurley.
On Feb. 5, 1954, he married Shirley Lamb.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years; a daughter, Dayna Jones (Timothy) of Morrisdale; and two sons, Dennis (Deborah) of Lebanon, Pa., and Michael of Studio City, Calif.
Also surviving are three grandsons, Aaron (Ashlee), Ryan (Chelsea) and Lance (Carrie) Jones and two great-grandsons, Lincoln Hurley Jones and Benjamin Wasco Jones (expected).
He retired from the Stott Coal Co., as a heavy equipment operator.
Affectionately known as “Pap,” “Wild Bill” and “Three-Fingers,” he was a member of the Palestine United Methodist Church. He also attended the Morrisdale United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Chicklamoose Square Dancing Club and the 29 and Holding Square Dance Club. He was a member of the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Association.
He enjoyed Allis Chalmers tractors, square dancing and animals, especially his dog, Jakie-Joy.
He was proud to have spent his life in the Hurley homestead, and he was the last member of his generation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Richard; a sister, Frances; a granddaughter, Kara Lee Jones; and a great-granddaughter, Reese Lynn Jones.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale, and again from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the Palestine United Methodist Church, Morrisdale.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Tina Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 440 W. Front St., Clearfield, PA 16830 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
