MILLERSVILLE – Lock Haven redshirt freshman wide receiver Jesse Hoover of Curwensville scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 31-yard reception early in the fourth quarter, but Millersville answered with a TD two minutes later and prevailed 35-21 in front of 2,312 fans in Biemesderfer Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Hoover caught three aerials from freshman Robert Meade for 49 yards, with his TD being the Bald Eagles’ longest pass play in the first two games, both setbacks that have extended their losing streak to 23 games.
He has four receptions for 53 yards for the season.

BLOOMSBURG – Senior strong safety Nick Sipes of Curwensville was involved on nine stops to lead Clarion’s defense for the second game in a row in Saturday’s 41-13 non-conference loss to Bloomsburg.
He made three solo tackles and assisted on six others in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game that attracted 3,378 fans to Redman Stadium.
Sopic’s two-game total of 16 stops is tied for 15th in the PSAC.
Clarion (0-2) senior free safety Shawn Sopic of Curwensville was a sideline spectator for the second of at least three games because of a knee injury he suffered prior to preseason camp.
The 6-2, 210-pounder has been a starter since his freshman season, racking up 94 solo tackles, 71 assists, five tackles for losses, four interceptions, 14 passes defended and two fumble recoveries.
Last year, Sopic was third in solo stops with 28 and fourth in tackles with 56 for the Golden Eagles. He broke up seven passes.

WILLIAMSPORT – Sophomore wide receiver Jarrin Campman of Clearfield saw action for Lycoming (1-1) in a 40-10 non-conference victory over visiting Westminster in front of 1,533 fans at Person Field Saturday afternoon.

ANNVILLE – Senior Tyler Kirkwood of Frenchville caught one pass for nine yards in Grove City’s 17-14 non-conference road win over Lebanon Valley at Arnold Field with 2,000 fans looking on Saturday afternoon.
The Clearfield Area High School grad is a starting wingback for the 1-1 Wolverines.

SELINSGROVE – Sophomore Isiah Morgan of Clearfield started at defensive back in Juniata’s 45-3 loss to host Susquehanna in front of 1,226 fans at Lopardo Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Morgan has one solo tackle in two games for the Eagles, off to an 0-2 start in the Centennial Conference.

PITTSBURGH – With redshirt junior quarterback/holder Andrew Janocko of Clearfield handling the snaps, Dan Hutchins kicked five extra points and one field goal as Pitt rolled past New Hampshire 38-16 in its home opener at Heinz Field Saturday afternoon.
A crowd of 50,120 saw the unranked Panthers, knocked out of the Top 25 by Utah in Week 1, level its record at 1-1 with the non-conference win.

MEN’S SOCCER
HACKETTSTOWN, N.Y. -Freshman midfielder Kurtis Graham of Clearfield subbed for Penn State-Altoona (2-3) in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over the host team at the Centenary (N.J.) Tournament.
The double-overtime win ended a three-game losing streak for the Lions, whose Sunday game was canceled because of heavy rains.
Graham got his second start and had one shot on goal in Wednesday’s 4-0 loss to Marywood at Scranton.
He has one assist and four shots, all but one on goal for the 2-3 Lions.

NEW WILMINGTON – Senior midfielder Alan Baldwin of Olanta (Clearfield Area H.S.) saw action in a reserve role Saturday when Westminster (1-2-2) dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to visiting Carnegie Mellon.
He did not play in the Titans’ double-overtime 1-1 tie at Mount Union (Ohio) Wednesday.
Baldwin has two shots in four games, one as a starter.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
SLIPPERY ROCK – Senior forward Juliana Howell of Clearfield assisted on the game-winning goal as Slippery Rock shut out Millersville 4-0 in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener at Thompson Stadium Sept. 8.
Howell also had one shot on goal in her first start of the season.
She did not play on Saturday, when The Rock (3-1) was bested 3-0 by West Chester, ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II, in a duel of PSAC unbeatens.
In three games, Howell has registered two assists and four shots, including two on goal.

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Danielle Struble of Curwensville was one of two Westminster players to attempt a team-high five shots against host Mount Union Sept. 8, but the Lady Titans were shut out 2-0 in the non-conference game.
The senior forward had two of Westminster’s seven shots on goal.
Struble leads the 3-1 Lady Titans in shots with 17. She has one goal and one assist.

LOCK HAVEN – Senior Jenny Williams of Clearfield was starting midfielder for Lock Haven (2-1) in a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games last week.
She had one shot, her second of the season, in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Millersville.
The Lady Eagles were blanked 2-0 Wednesday by West Chester, ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II.

DUBOIS – Sophomore midfielder Jilissa Keller of Grampian (Curwensville Area H.S.) assisted on goal as Penn State-DuBois (2-2) opened its Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference schedule by edging host Penn-State Beaver 5-3 Sept. 8.
The Lady Lions were limited to just two shots Saturday in a 7-1 non-conference loss to Thiel at Greenville Saturday.
Keller has started all four games with the one point and one shot.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
DUBOIS – Sophomore Sophie Reed of Clearfield and freshmen Lindsay Barrett and Stephanie Neeper of Curwensville helped Penn State-DuBois sweep Penn State-Greater Allegheny Sept. 7 and Penn State-Hazleton Saturday to grab the early lead in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference.
The Lady Lions breezed to 25-7, 25-4, 25-0 and 25-6, 25-17, 25-8 victories in the Multi-Purpose Building Gym.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State freshman Gwenn Porter of Clearfield finished 141st in a field of 179 cross country runners from 14 teams competing in the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at the Blue & White Course Saturday morning.
Porter, whose time was 25:02.7, was the 13th Lady Lion to cross the line in the 6,000-meter race.
Penn State placed third among the 14 teams with 59 points.
