Richard J. Murawski, 75, of Houtzdale died Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at his residence.
Born Oct. 19, 1942, he was the son of the late Bernard A. and Leona (Duey) Murawski.
He was a 1960 graduate of the Moshannon Valley High School and vice president of his class. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale.
He served with the U.S. Army in Germany from 1960 until 1963. He was a member of the Houtzdale American Legion.
He had worked at Shane Ind., Campo Slacks, Piper Aircraft and retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
He enjoyed hunting and going for morning rides. His favorite band was AC/DC. He was a devoted father and loved his grandchildren.
He was a God-send to his wife, Elaine, and her rock that she relied upon for most everything.
On June 26, 1965, he married Elaine (Kawa) Murawski, who survives at home.
Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard (Kate) Murawski of Curwensville; a daughter, Sherri (Matthew) Gehringer of Howard; and five grandchildren, Alex, Sophia and Lucas Murawski and Dylan and Cody Gehringer.
Also surviving are a brother, Anthony Murawski of Berlin; a sister, Barbara Johnson of Houtzdale; and a niece, Jennifer Johnson of Centre Hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Bernie and Jean Kawa, brother-in-law, Eugene Kawa, sister-in-law, Elaine Kawa, nephew, Eugene B. Kawa and brother-in-law, Clayton Johnson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Church, Houtzdale, with Father Marc Solomon as celebrant.
Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.
A prayer service will be led by Father Marc Solomon at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Madera, with graveside honors accorded by the Houtzdale American Legion Honor Guard.
