CLEARFIELD – A state prison inmate, Maurice T. Hamilton, has been accused of assaulting a corrections officer when he was housed at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale.
Hamilton has been charged by Clearfield-based state police with aggravated assault, F2; simple assault, M2; and harassment, S. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Jan. 30, 2017, a trooper received a report that a CO had been assaulted by an inmate in the BA Unit vestibule at the prison.
When the incident occurred Jan. 26, 2017, the CO was standing at a desk in the unit. He ordered for Hamilton to hang up the telephone and return to his cell.
Hamilton became argumentative and approached the CO. He got very close and began swinging both fists repeatedly, allegedly striking the CO in the face several times.
The CO suffered a bloody nose and a laceration on his upper lip. The trooper was provided with video surveillance and observed the assault very clearly in plain view.
