CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is notifying area motorists that weight limits have been changed on a Route 1004 (Rich Valley Road) bridge in Lawrence Township, Clearfield County.
The bridge spans Montgomery Creek on Township Road 248 (Coal Hill Road), northwest of the village of Hyde.
As of Dec. 6, the posted weight limit is 16 tons for single vehicles and 18 tons for combination vehicles. Vehicles exceeding the posted weight limits are required to use alternate routes. The previous posting was 35 and 40 tons.
Lowering the weight limits will slow deterioration on the bridge and preserve safety until repairs or replacement can occur. Originally constructed in 1952, the bridge is 46 feet long and carries an average of almost 1,200 vehicles daily.
