Harold “Hun” Bell was born to Naomi Harris Bell and Seth W. Bell on July 15, 1925 in Philipsburg. He was one of nine children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, Norman, Charles and Richard; one sister, Velma Gilpartrick; and his son, Harold Bell Jr.
On Oct. 14, 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Navy. He served until the seventh day of February in 1946, when he was honorably discharged as a Seaman Second Class.
On Feb. 13, 1943, he married the love of his life, Elsie Robbins, and built his life in Philipsburg. They were happily married for nearly 75 years and raised seven children.
He’s survived by his wife, Elsie and three sisters, Norma Jean Gilham and Florence Wood, both of Philipsburg, and Frances Osborne and her husband, Jerry C. Osborne of Waynesboro.
He’s survived by four daughters, Lauria Bell-Hughes and her husband, Randy Hughes of Black Mountain, NC, Linda McKay and her husband, David McKay of Deltona, Fla., Robin Bell and her fiancé, Rick Hess of Frenchville and Tina Millinder and her husband, Travis Millinder of West Decatur and and two sons, Seth Bell and his wife, Bonnie Bell of DeBary, Fla., and Jeffrey Bell and his wife, Stefanie Bell of Woodland.
He’s also survived by 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
For most of his adult life, he worked as a lineman for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 126.
Throughout his 92 years, he touched many lives. Anywhere he went, he made friends because of his genuine love for people and his passion for life.
He brought joy to not only his family, but also to everyone he met. We always said that, “he never met a stranger.”
Anytime he entered a room, the light would shine a little brighter. He was a very special man who was deeply loved by his wife and all of his family.
When his light went out Nov. 1, 2017, the world was a little less bright, and heaven received another angel.
We, his family, will miss him terribly but will always hold him in our hearts until we meet again.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8386, 879 Frenchville Hwy., Frenchville, PA. We hope family and friends alike will join us for his celebration.
