HERSHEY – A Cambria County man who works as a police communications operator at the Pennsylvania State Police station in Ebensburg today was honored by the department during an awards ceremony at the State Police Academy.
State Police Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski presented the department’s Police Communications Operator of the Year Award for 2008 to Mark A. Daisley, 42, of Northern Cambria.
“PCO Daisley is a leader and positive role model in his position with State Police and is an active volunteer who gives of his time and talent to benefit his community,” Pawlowski said.
Police communications officers receive telephone and radio communications, dispatch State Police patrols, and generally provide information to citizens who need police services.
“PCO Daisley is known for the professional manner in which he handles all calls to Troop A, Ebensburg, and ensures that the proper response is made,” Pawlowski said.
He noted that on Dec. 10, 2008, Daisley received a call from a suicidal individual who was at home and armed with a rifle. Daisley spoke at length with the caller and eventually convinced him to put down his gun and go outside to meet with troopers.
Pawlowski said Daisley serves in various volunteer roles in his community, including:
- Training officer, infection control officer, fire prevention committee member, computer and Web site manager, and member of the board of trustees of the Hope Volunteer Fire Company;
- Active paramedic and member of the board of directors of the Veterans Memorial Ambulance Service;
- Deputy emergency management coordinator, Northern Cambria;
- Baseball and football coach, Northern Cambria Parks and Recreation;
- CPR and first aid instructor.
