CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre has announced the cast list for their summer musical Godspell. With a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz and John Michael Tebelak, Godspell (an archaic spelling of the word gospel) is based on the Gospel of Matthew with parables from the Gospel of Luke. Interspersed is a variety of modern music including “Day By Day” which reached #13 on the Billboard pop singles in the 1970’s.
In the cast are Brennan Bell as Jesus, Casey Fletcher as Judas and Maria Angelo, Anyssa Bell, Bridget Bellmore, Gunther Boteman, JJ Bungo, Jordan Gilbert, Ryan Knepp and Mandi Yeager as The Players. Season ticket holders will find some familiar faces as well as some who are making their first appearance in a CAST production.
GODSPELL has seen many revivals and many tours across the country and has been done in a variety of settings. Director Susan Loffredi has chosen to set the production in a New York City Park in the shadow of Ground Zero.
“We have a wonderful cast for this production and they are a joy to work with,” said Miss Loffredi. “Plus we have Mark Barrett as music director on piano, JJ Bungo as vocal coach and Calvin Walls as percussionist.”
“This musical has so much to give people,” she continued. “It is filled with phenomenal music, some of it very moving such as “On The Willows” and “All Good Gifts,”some thought provoking as in “Save The People” and “Turn Back, Oh Man,” as well as some comedy when Jesus and Judas join together to sing “All For The Best.” “I think our audiences will find this a joyous, emotional, exciting and entertaining spiritual journey.”
Godspell will be presented at the CAST Building on June 18, 19, 20 & 25, 26, 27 with curtain at 8 pm.
