CLEARFIELD – Another “stop” sign may help improve safety in Clearfield Borough.
At Thursday’s work session, the Clearfield Borough public safety committee discussed placing another stop sign at the intersection of South Third Street and Ogden Avenue.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said several residents of the area have called the borough offices asking if the sign could be placed to help improve safety.
Stott said there was recently a vehicle versus motorcycle accident at the intersection when a motorist failed to stop.
Police Chief Vincent McGinnis said there have been a total of 12 accidents from 2011 to the present. Of those accidents, three were the result of a motorist failing to stop at the existing stop sign.
McGinnis said there’s no way to know for sure if the extra sign would stop the accidents, it should help somewhat.
Adding the extra sign will make the area a four-way intersection. The council members were urged to take a look at the area before next week’s regular voting meeting.
Also at the meeting, Street Crew Foreman Todd Kling warned residents that paving crews will be working on sections of West First and West Second streets, all of Welch Street, and West Sixth between Nichols and Clearfield streets.
Kling asked the residents to be patient and use caution when traveling in the areas where the paving work is taking place.
