CLEARFIELD – Two men accused of possessing 40 fraudulent credit cards and fake drivers licenses had their cases continued for two weeks.
Ariel Rosario of Passaic, NJ and Awni Minaya of Philadelphia are both charged with violations concerning licenses and 40 counts of access device fraud.
According to court records on May 20 state police observed a green Honda minivan backing up on Interstate 80 about a half-mile past exit 123, westbound. Cpl. Douglas Clark turned and found the vehicle on state Route 970 and stopped the vehicle for the violation.
The driver was identified as Awni Minaya by his PA driver’s license. Clark reported that Minaya said he missed his exit because he was feeling ill. Clark asked him if his passenger should drive and Minaya reportedly agreed.
The passenger then produced a New York driver’s license. Clark reported that the license appeared fraudulent. The license was checked and it came back as female. Rosario was then detained. A warning was issued to Minaya for the traffic offense and all of his documents were returned.
Clark noted that Rosario then produced a New Jersey driver’s license and said that he mistakenly gave him the fake ID and that it was very old. Rosario was then released. Clark then told them they were free to leave.
After that Clark asked Minaya if he would be willing to discuss his trip. Clark reported that Minaya agreed and said that they were going to Ohio to look at a vehicle he was going to buy. Clark asked him if he had any documents on the vehicle or where the vehicle was located. Clark noted that Minaya said he did not. Clark also noted that Minaya was exhibiting nervous behavior and when asked had no overnight bag.
Clark then asked if he could have consent to search the vehicle, which Minaya reportedly agreed to. Clark and two other troopers then searched the vehicle.
Police found 2 wallets and two separate stacks of credit cards within the front passenger side door, three more credit cards in the headliner above the front seat and a wallet containing another fake license in the headliner above the driver’s seat.
Both were taken into custody and the vehicle was impounded. Within the vehicle a new 32 inch LCD television and a new Sony Playstation were also found and seized.
