CLEARFIELD – It’s time for the Clearfield Riverfront Festival and this means it’s also time for the CAST Most Beautiful Baby Contest. This CAST contest has been a part of Riverfront Days for many years and always draws a crowd of all ages oohing and aahing over the delightful photos of babies.
Riverfront Days runs at Clearfield’s Lower Witmer Park beginning Thursday, June 11 at 11 a.m. and continues Friday and Saturday. Parents wishing to enter their baby in the Most Beautiful Baby contest should decorate an 11 ounce coffee can complete with the baby’s picture and name. The parents’ names can also be placed on the can if so desired. It can be decorated in any way wished (tastefully) but it is important that the lid can be removed since the money is taken out and counted each night. Also, photos on sticks or photos sticking out from the can are not permitted.
“We want the contest to be completely fair so we don’t want anything blocking another can,” said Sue Loffredi, CAST managing director who is in charge of the contest. “We’re occasionally asked if there can be money in the cans when they’re brought in to register and the answer is yes,” she continued. “Sometimes out of town relatives want to vote for the child and this way they can.”
Any amount of money can be dropped in the can and both coins and bills are welcome. The three babies with the most money in the cans when amounts are totaled on Saturday night will each receive a beautiful engraved Trophy and each winner’s parents will receive tickets to opening night of the CAST September live theatre production of Breaking Legs.
All money received in the cans benefits CAST, the areas center for performing and visual arts. For more information on CAST visit the Web site.
Cans will be accepted at the CAST Building for the contest beginning May 25. They can be taken to the CAST Building at 112 E. Locust Street in Clearfield Monday through Friday from 10 am to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Side entrance.) Cans can also be registered at the MBBC booth at Lower Witmer Park once the Riverfront Festival opens.
Anyone with questions is welcome to call the CAST office at 765-4474 during weekday business hours and speak with Sue or Ruth.
