Roberta M. “Peach” Firestone, 75, of Pottersdale died Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 at the Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Muncy.
Born Sept. 24, 1941 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Stella B. Moore Schmoke.
She was married to Regis W. Firestone. He preceded her in death in 2007.
She was a 1960 graduate of the Cooper High School. She attended the Sheppard of the Hills Lutheran Church in Karthaus.
She drove school bus for the West Branch Junior-Senior High School for more than 30 years.
She, along with her husband, owned and operated the Firestone Market in Karthaus for many years.
After the store closed, she went to work at the West Branch Junior-Senior High School in the janitorial department, retiring in 2009 after 10 years of service.
She was an excellent baker. She loved to treat people to her home-made pies. She had her pies requested from staff members at the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, yard sales and auctions. She wouldn’t hesitate, if she saw a flower in someone’s yard that she liked, to ask if she could have a piece to plant in her yard. She loved her flowers.
She is survived by her two sons, Thomas E. Schmoke of Pottersdale and Daniel A. Firestone of Blanchard and five grandchildren, Elizabeth Ishler, Logan Firestone, Rosana Ishler, Ryan Ishler and Jacob Firestone.
Also surviving are her two brothers, Orville L. Schmoke of Clearfield and Jan D. Schmoke of Pottersdale and two sisters, Phoebe A. Borger of Moshannon and Charlene J. Schmoke of Rochester Mills.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, James, Kline, William, Dean, Christy and Levern and five sisters, Geneva Hess, Violia Teets, Rose Teets, Edna Summerson and Violet Schmoke.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Thursday at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald Neese officiating. Burial will follow at Aton Cemetery in Pottersdale.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St., Snow Shoe.
