John A. “Jack” Sahlaney, 84, of Houtzdale died Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.
Born Dec. 23, 1932, he was the son of Elias and Sarah (Batrus) Sahlaney.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Houtzdale. He enjoyed gardening, sports, cars and most of all his grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Houtzdale-Woodward-Brisbin High School.
He owned and operated Sahlaney’s Furniture Store in Houtzdale. He had also worked at the family business with his father since he was 12 years old.
On Sept. 1, 1958, he married Anne Marie (Gero) Sahlaney, who survives at home.
Along with his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Betty Abraham and her husband, Albert and a son, Dr. Jack Sahlaney and his wife, Jennifer, both of Hollidaysburg, and three grandchildren, AJ and Drew Abraham and Jaclyn Sahlaney. He is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Reutemann of Meadow Brook.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Raymond and Vivian Buzzannco and a brother, Dr. Michael Sahlaney.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale, with Father Zab Amar officiating.
Friends will be received from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service. Burial will be in the I.O.O. F. Cemetery, Brisbin.
