Grace M. Waple, 88, of Clearfield went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Jane and her son-in-law, Jim.
She was born April 10, 1929 in Broad Top Township, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Jane (Rhodes) Conaway.
Mrs. Waple was a homemaker and a member and Sunday school teacher at the St. John Lutheran Church in Clearfield.
She enjoyed working her gardens, planting and caring for strawberries, apples, sweet corn and other fruits and vegetables that she was known to give away.
These gardens were also where Mrs. Waple tended her flowers that she would often bring to church for the altar or give away as arrangements.
She was affectionately known as ‘The Flower Lady’ and will certainly be remembered for her generosity.
She loved to wear hats and made delicious pies. Mrs. Waple was a Cub Scout den mother as well as a Girl Scout leader.
She graduated in 1948 from the Cooper Township High School in Winburne.
She is survived by her husband, Chester A. Waple, to whom she was married April 14, 1950 in Union, NJ; her two children, Jane Davis and her husband, Jim of Clearfield and Curtis Waple and his wife, Vicki of Selma, Ore.; her two grandchildren, Evan and Brett Davis; and her two sisters, Betty Wise and Dorothy McGinnis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Sara Seitz, Doris Spangler, Inez McGovern, Cecily Navadowski and Janice Roelke and six brothers, George, Benjamin, Robert, James, Samuel and Patrick Conaway.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield, with the Rev. Robert J. Way officiating. Burial will be in the Bigler Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. John Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1454, Clearfield.
