CLEARFIELD – Hyde Wesleyan Church will host Dave Ramsey’s Town Hall for Hope: The Economy, Your Money, Real Answers. The live, nationwide event will air on April 23, at 8:00 p.m. It is free and is intended to give Americans hope that they can survive this economic downturn. Ramsey will do straight-talk about how the economy got to be like it is and how wage earners should handle their money to survive. You can check it out online.
Ramsey knows about being behind the eightball financially. At the age of 26, through his brokerage firm, Ramsey Investments, Inc., he had built a rental real estate portfolio worth more than $4 million. Ramsey’s debt-fueled success soon came to an end as the Tax Reform Act of 1986 began to have a negative impact the real estate business. One of Ramsey’s largest investors was sold to a larger bank, who began to take a harder look at Ramsey’s borrowing habits. The bank demanded he pay $1.2 million worth of short-term notes within 90 days, forcing him to file bankruptcy.
Learning his lessons the hard way, Ramsey began to rebuild, starting by providing financial counciling to couples within his church. He has been featured on many television programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show, 60 Minutes, and The Early Show on CBS. He is the host of The Dave Ramsey Show on the new Fox Business Network.
Ramsey is the founder of Financial Peace University, a biblically-based, video-driven small group study that teaches families to beat debt, build wealth and give like never before. Ramsey is an American financial writer, radio host, and television personality. Ramsey’s syndicated radio program, The Dave Ramsey Show, is promoted with a tagline that it is about “Life and Money”, and it is heard on over 350 radio stations throughout the United States and Canada, as well as on XM and Sirius satellite radio.
He has written over 14 books, three of which have been on the New York Times Best Seller list. His books and broadcasts often feature a conservative Christian perspective that reflects Ramsey’s own religious beliefs. Ramsey’s current company, The Lampo Group, is headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee, and oversees three divisions geared toward financial counseling.
