STRONGSTOWN, PA (July 2, 2010) – Exciting may be too mild a word to describe the feature events at Dog Hollow Speedway on Friday night. Dane Laraway held off his teammate, Sam Stile by mere inches to claim his second Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Model Feature. Huntindgon’s Tim Snare Jr. picked up his career first Zero Wrap FASTRAK Late Model win while Nick Goss made a last lap pass to win his third straight Stoystown Auto Wreckers Street Stock A-Main. Matt Summers (Brush Valley Tire Pure Stocks), Mark Maglet (Modified 4 Cylinders) and Mike Phillipson (4 Cylinders) won their first of the season on Scanlan Chiropractic Night.
The 18-lap Zero Wrap FASTRAK Late Models got the night started with Tim Snare, Jr. grabbing the lead from his outside front row starting spot. Snare held off numerous attempts from Joe Moyer before crossing the finish line for his first-ever FASTRAK feature win. Moyer, who recently returned to racing after many years off, had his hands full with Bryan Force in a battle for second. Moyer held on over Force, Troy Shields, Mike Laughard (from 13th ), Ken Herman, Bobby Cossell, John Eckenrod, Mike Hughes and Frank Monteparte. Eckenrod and Snare were the two heat winners.
Dwayne Taneyhill grabbed the lead as the green dropped in the 20-lap Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Model feature. Taneyhill led the first three laps when Harrison City’s Dane Laraway blew by on the outside. Laraway fought back challenges from Clate Copeman until Sam Stile entered the battle. Stile took second on lap eight and set his sights on teammate Laraway. Stile reeled him in and the two ran side-by-side for many laps. Stile actually led lap 12 but Laraway never gave up and fought back to retake the lead. As the pair came out of turn four Stile gave it one last shot but came up short by a few inches. Following Laraway and Stile were Copeman, Taneyhill, Billy Eash, Rick Davis, Dan Lee, Jerry Redden, Dwayne Brooks and Brandon Delano. Davis and Copeman won the heats.
Matt Summers may have started on the pole but the Leechburg driver had his hands full all 14 laps of the Brush Valley Tire Pure Stock feature. Rookie Stock driver Joey Petyak hounded Summers the first five laps. Then, Tim Laughard took over second and applied pressure. Seventeenth starting Jeremy Shaffer entered the picture with just three laps to go. A caution on lap 12 saw a four car battle between Summers, Laughard, Shaffer and Justin Queen. Summers came home the winner, his first of the year, as Laughard took second over Shaffer, Mike Calhoun, Gary Shaffer, Petyak, Jim Hamilton, Ryan Weakland, John Yasika and Eric Ager. Taking heat wins were Laughard and Summers.
Nick Goss came home the winner in the 15-lap Stoystown Auto Wreckers Street Stock feature that saw a wild finish on the last lap. Josh Jacoby took the initial lead and looked to be on his way to victory. Tyler Hite had other ideas and passed Jacoby on lap eight. Hite was pulling away from the field when a caution came out on lap 12. On the restart Hite took off with 12^th starting Goss now in second. They entered turn three side by side and touched lightly triggering a spin by Hite that saw him spin and hit by a few cars. Goss went on for his sixth feature win of the season. Jacoby took second over Ray Hickok, Alex Kirsh, Harry Smith, Charlie Trice, Jim Boyer, Bill Pluta, Andy Klingensmith and David Rocker. Heats were won by Boyer and Goss.
A slim Modified Four Cylinder feature was won by Nanty Glo’s Mark Maglet. Maglet led all 12 laps for his first win of the season. Tom Pavelko, Robert Lydic and Chris Hickok followed. Maglet also won the lone heat.
In the 4 Cylinder feature Adam Pletcher led all 12 laps for what looked like his fifth win this season. After a post race inspection, Pletcher was disqualified and the win was awarded to Mike Phillipson of Ebensburg for his career first A-Main win. Chris Yoder was second over Wes McKeel, Gene Charles, Shawn Hadden, Paul Little, Donny Lechak, John Lamer, Mark Wetzel, Jr. and Ashley Rocker. Pletcher, Lee Fitzpatrick and Phillipson won the heats.
A Mechanic Race for the Street Stocks was won by Matt Fulton.
