CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Council took steps at their special meeting Thursday night to help with downtown revitalization.
Council approved applying for grants on behalf of Bob Yoder and Impact PA for the projects along the Susquehanna River.
The first grant is for HOME program funds in the amount of $500,000. That money will be used for four units in the multi-purpose building planned on the west side of the Susquehanna River where the Tool Shed currently stands and will provide housing assistance for those who meet the requirements.
Council passed a resolution allowing Council President Jim Leitzinger the ability to sign off on the $5 million funds that Gov. Edward G. Rendell had allocated to Clearfield for the Riverfront Revitalization project. That money will be put toward the east side of the river where the old Uni Mart building is located. Yoder said the money requires matching funds, which his group will provide, putting the project at over $10 million.
The borough also approved applying for a $500,000 loan use on the mixed-use property.
Council also agreed to apply for $320,000 in grant funds on behalf of the Clearfield Revitalization Corporation to be use in the application of the Main Street Program. Solicitor F. Cortez “Chip” Bell III explained that due to the CRC’s lack of a track record with the Department of Community and Economic Development, the borough will need to apply for grants on the CRC’s behalf for the time being. Once the CRC develops a relationship with DCED, they will be able to apply for the grants.
