HOMER CITY – First baseman Kyler Kephart and outfielder Shane Harper of the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 team were among the 56 players selected to advance from Sunday’s Region 7 Preliminary All-Star Showcase at the Homer-Center High School Field.

In all, 122 players representing more than 40 teams from five leagues – Jefferson County, Central Penn, Cambria County, Indiana County and Westmoreland County – participated in the running (60 yards), throwing (from positions) and pitching drills.

Clearfield will host the Region 7 All-Star Showcase on Wednesday, June 16, at the Lawrence Township Recreation Park Field.

Chiefs manager Sid Lansberry noted that players must report by 11 a.m. for workouts that will be followed by a game at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Scouts and coaches then will pick 28 all-stars to move on to the All-West Game in July.

Pitcher Ronny Ogden, catcher Andrew Redden, shortstop Derek Danver and third baseman Tyler Jacobson were the other Clearfield players who took part in the preliminary showcase.

The Chiefs (3-0) will take their 2-0 JCL record to Punxsutawney Tuesday before finally playing their home opener Thursday against Reynoldsville at the Bison Sports Complex. Game time is 6 p.m.

Clearfield was scheduled for a makeup game at DuBois Monday evening, but that JCL tilt was postponed for a second time.
