CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Municipal Authority members learned that the new wastewater treatment plant is on schedule and testing of all of the systems has begun.
Engineer Jim Balliet of Gwin, Dobson and Foreman Inc. informed the board that when all the tests are done and they are certain that the system is ready to go, the lines will be transferred from the old plant to the new, and the new plant will begin treating all of the sewage for the system. Operators are being trained on the new system also.
Once the lines are tied into the new plant, the anaerobic digesters will be converted to aerobic ones and the old treatment units will be demolished. Balliet said they are on track to have everything completed by spring.
GDF is preparing a Department of Community and Economic Development small water and sewer grant application to complete work on the Mount Joy pump station. The application is due before Oct. 31.
The cost is estimated at $210,000 with $160,000 for construction, $24,000 for engineering and $16,000 for administrations, fees and other costs. The grant funding would be for 85 percent of the project and the authority will have to provide the other 15 percent.
Therefore, the amount requested will be $178,500. If the project cost estimates are higher, Balliet said they would be able to go back to DCED for the additional funds, assuming the authority receives the grant. This project is part of the authority’s capital improvements list.
Manager John Williams informed the board that a centrifuge needs repairs to the electronics, which are outdated. The board approved the work at a cost of $22,000.
