DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Supervisors commended their police department at Monday night’s meeting after receiving a letter from Raymond and Janette Snyder of Hamburg.
The Snyder’s had spent the past five years renovating a cabin in Sandy Township. In August, they found it had been broken into.
In their letter, the Snyder’s praised the police department’s actions, compassion and professionalism, especially that of Officers Greg Gornati and Gilbert Barker.
The supervisors also expressed words of appreciation. Supervisor Dave Sylvis stated that they were proud of the police department and their crews.
“We hear the bad news very quick when it comes about, but we like to hear the good news, too,” added Supervisor Jim Jeffers.
In other business, Police Chief Donald Routch shared that the department will be participating in “Whiskers for Wishes.”
Officers will donate $10 weekly to not shave during hunting season. Proceeds will benefit the Make A Wish Foundation. Last year the department raised $700, he stated.
When asked by the press, the supervisors declined to comment in regards to a letter from DuBois City on researching the possibility of merging the police departments.
Jeffers noted that he hadn’t seen the letter yet. The township, according to Sylvis, had used a $10,000 grant to research a possible merger in previous years.
