Thomas W. “Tom” Barrett, 83, of Hepburnia died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Barrett was born Dec. 31, 1932 in LaJose, the son of Arthur C. and Vella (McGarvey) Barrett.
He was a graduate of the Clearfield Area High School in the class of 1951.
Mr. Barrett worked for The Progress for more than 40 years until retiring in 1998.
He was a member of the Bells Landing Baptist Church, where he held various offices, including deacon, trustee and Sunday School superintendent. He also sang in the choir.
Mr. Barrett was a U.S. Army veteran who had served in Germany during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy J. (Gates) Barrett, to whom he was married June 6, 1958 at the Bells Landing Baptist Church by Dr. Kenneth Klingler and assisted by the late Rev. Cora Ardary.
He is survived by two children, Michele N. Rorabaugh and her husband, William “Willie” of Burnside and Mark T. Barrett and his wife, Peggy of Bells Landing and two grandsons, Ian T. Barrett and Evan M. Barrett.
He is also survived by a sister, Kathleen Wulff and her husband, Thomas of Middleton, Wis., a brother, David A. Barrett and his wife, Pamula of LaJose, a step-brother, Joseph White and his wife, Cathy of Clymer, two brothers-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Klingler of South Carolina and Robert Emigh of Virginia and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Helen, three sisters, Freeda Wood, Janet Klingler and Jean Emigh and his step-mother, Dorothy M. (Brady) Barrett.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bells Landing Baptist Church with the Rev. M. Bruce Dimmick officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
