MEN’S GOLF
WARREN, Ohio — Junior Brett Gardner (Curwensville) matched his career low for Pitt-Bradford with a 36-42-78 at the Avalon Lakes Golf Course Monday to tie for fourth place in the season-ending Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships.
Only the three players who finished ahead of him had better rounds while the Panther was making the leap from a tie for 15th place after carding a 41-42-83 the previous day in the tourney that had 45 golfers from nine teams.
Gardner, who had opened the season with a 78 at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational, wound up 11 strokes behind champion Sean Sculley of Penn State Behrend.
Sculley turned in rounds of 76-64 to edge Lion teammate Ryan Matlock (75-77-152).
Gardner and freshman Matt Moonan, who was sixth, keyed a fourth-place finish by the Panthers, who posted a 334-332-666 score.
Penn State Behrend claimed the team title for the sixth year in a row with a 630.
Gardner tied for 14th in the 33-player Penn State Behrend Invitational Monday, Oct. 3, with an 82 at the Lawrence Park Golf Course in Erie.
He shared team honors with Moonan as the Panthers totaled 332 to place fifth in the seven-team tourney.

WARREN, Ohio — Thiel junior Jason Thorp (Curwensville) carded a pair of 79s over the Avalon Lakes Golf Course to finish in a tie for 16th place with his 158 aggregate score at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Fall Championships early last week.
Thorp was the medalist both days for the Tomcats, who wound up sixth in the seven-team tourney with a 329-340-669.
Ben Biss of St. Vincent topped the 38-player field with a 75-70-145, and Thomas More (Ky.) earned team honors with a 301-302-603.
Thorp will have a chance to improve his overall finish for the PAC Championships at the spring tournament in April.

FOOTBALL
WAYNESBURG — Junior strong safety Austin Jacobson (Curwensville) had two solo tackles and one assist for Geneva in a 10-9 Presidents’ Athletic Conference loss to Waynesburg in front of 1,850 fans at Wiley Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Tornadoes tumbled to 2-3 with their second defeat in three PAC games.
Jacobson’s 21 tackles rank fifth on the Geneva defense. Two were for losses of two yards. He also has one pass break-up.

MADISON, N.J. — Junior Brad Stubbs (Curwensville) made his sixth start at center for Lycoming Saturday in a Middle Atlantic Conference game that the Warriors were controlling, 21-8, in the third quarter before Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham rallied to pull out a 24-21 with a field goal as time expired.
Only 568 fans made it to Robert T. Shields Stadium for the encounter that left the Warriors with a 2-4 record, including 1-4 in the MAC.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
CLARION — Junior midfielder/defender Carlee Freeberg (Clearfield) moved from offense to defense for starts in Clarion’s two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference road losses last week.
The Golden Eagles were shut out 1-0 by Gannon at Erie Wednesday and 3-0 by Kutztown Saturday, falling to 2-9-1 in the PSAC and 2-10-2 overall.
Freeberg has started every game with one assist and one shot on goal.

MIDDLETOWN — Freshman forward Raquel Grice (Clearfield) had one of only two shots on goal by Penn State Harrisburg in a 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference loss to visiting Salisbury (Md.) Saturday.
She also recorded one shot in a 2-1 CAC win at York last Wednesday.
Grice’s four-game starts show one goal, one assist, eight shots and five shots on goal.
The Lions are 5-8 with a 2-2 conference record.

ERIE — Junior midfielder McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) and sophomore midfielder Tessa Munshower (Clearfield) saw action as Penn State Behrend remained unbeaten in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference by shutting out Penn State Altoona 4-0 on Senior Day at Behrend Field Saturday.
The Lions are second in the AMCC at 4-0 and stand 9-4 with a five-game winning streak.
Aleksivich has two goals on two shots in three appearances, while Munshower has one assists and five shots in seven games.
