More than 800,000 customers are without power across Florida as Hurricane Matthew skirts along the eastern seaboard, according to the state’s utility companies.
Florida Power & Light is reporting roughly 614,520 customers without power in 27 counties.
The counties with the highest number of outages are:
• Brevard County (includes Melbourne, Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach): 186,970
• Volusia County (includes Daytona Beach): 157,470
• Martin County (includes Palm City and Stuart): 44,600
• St. Lucie (incldes Ft. Pierce, White City): 41,400
• Palm Beach County (includes Boca Raton and West Palm Beach): 46,060
Electricity provider Duke Energy is reporting that 115,284 of their customers are without power. TECO and other utilities reported about 97,100 customers affected.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott said Friday morning that more outages are inevitable. He urged residents to stay away from downed power lines until utility crews can render them safe.
