CLEARFIELD – All three high school athletic directors saw their resignations accepted by the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors at a regular meeting Monday night.
“They didn’t express any reasons. They just said they were resigning,” said board President Dave Glass, pointing to the brief letters of resignation.
Jon Mikesell resigned as the head of the athletic department. In addition, he will transfer from his high school guidance counselor position into the same position at the middle school.
Mikesell will begin in the middle school guidance counselor position today. He’ll continue duties as the athletic director until June 30.
David Wright and Donnie Billotte, who serve as assistant athletic directors, submitted their own letters of resignation. Their resignations are effective at the conclusion of the school year.
When questioned by members of the press, Glass said he was uncertain if their resignations were related to a Saturday, March 6 incident at the school’s field house.
“I guess I have to say no comment. I don’t know,” Glass said.
At a March school board meeting, the press questioned Superintendent Dr. Richard C. Makin and Glass about rumors of students who had allegedly gained access to the field house after hours and were possibly in possession of alcohol while on school property.
Makin said then that they handled the incident internally. But he neither specified the number of students involved, nor the details surrounding the students’ discipline.
However, Glass added the board was pleased with the disciplinary action taken by the high school administration. He said the police department was not contacted about the incident. He said they would develop policy for handling these types of situations in the future.
Wright declined to comment about his resignation. Neither Mikesell nor Billotte were available for comment.
In a phone call with GantDaily.com on Tuesday, Glass clarified his previous statement to the press.
“I can honestly say it has nothing to do with the field house (incident),” he said, “because it has absolutely nothing to do with the field house.”
