Mia Farrow has broken her silence on the death of her son Thaddeus Wilk Farrow.
The actress took to Twitter on Thursday to post a heartfelt message about her loss.
“We’re devastated by the loss of Thaddeus, our beloved son and brother. He was a wonderful courageous person who overcame so much hardship in his short life. We miss him. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and words of kindness.”
The 27-year-old died on Wednesday after “a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the torso, suicide was the manner,” the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Connecticut told CNN.
Farrow also addressed the fact that her son took his own life: “If you or someone you love needs help, or if you want to support a group doing live saving work, please visit: https://afsp.org.”
She adopted Thaddeus in 1994 from Calcutta, India. He was paraplegic. In a 2013 interview with Vanity Fair, she said that she first saw Thaddeus in a railway station and he was crawling on his hands and stubs for food. She also said that at an orphanage he was chained to a post and children would throw rocks at him.
After being adopted by Farrow, he realized he had a knack for fixing cars. But after reportedly being turned down by a technical school, he eventually decided he wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement.
