CLEARFIELD – Representatives of the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, are stressing the importance of local libraries.
At Tuesday’s Lawrence Township Supervisors’ meeting, Jamie Addleman, Kevin Stebits and Jayme Stonbraker showcased some of the features of the Shaw Public Library.
Addleman said the group usually makes their presentation to the township in November, but September is National Library Card Sign-up month and they wanted to spread the word.
In addition to books, the group said the library offers many services, such as job searching and resume preparation; access to databases; movie rentals and a meeting place for groups and tutors.
Addleman said a new addition to the library is the Overdrive app, which allows library users to access the library from their homes. She said library users enter their library card numbers, they can reserve and read books and other services.
Addleman, Stebits and Stonebraker thanked the township’s continued support of the library.
Also at the meeting, the supervisors discussed recommendations from the safety committee to improve security at the police station. The committee suggested moving a wall in the entry way to make the area more handicapped accessible.
While that project is ongoing, the security windows can also be improved and a camera system can be added. The committee also suggested a new door between the office area and the garage at the township building. The supervisors gave their approval for the committee to continue moving forward with the improvements.
In other business, the supervisors approved:
- Setting Trick-or-Treat night for 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Oct. 31
- Appointing Kevin Wisor Sr. to the Recreational Park Board
- Purchasing Curwensville Police Department’s police truck in the amount of $20,000.
