PENFIELD – Staff members have announced the program schedule for Sept. 23 through Oct. 8 at the Parker Dam State Park.
Friday, Sept. 23
A Murder of Crows:
7 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
They don’t always have the best of reputations, but crows are among the most intelligent animals in the world. They’ve shown ability to use tools and recognize faces. Crow scientists sing their praises and you will see captivating footage of their lifestyle.
Saturday, Sept. 24
Pennsylvania’s Elk Herd:
7 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Although our original Eastern elk are gone, the restoration efforts of 100 years ago have had beautiful results. It hasn’t always been an easy journey, but to learn about how and why the elk herd in PA is one of conservation’s great success stories.

Leave It to Beavers:

They are one of the most popular wildlife species to view in the wild, even though humans once drove them to the brink of extinction. Come watch as scientists study the beavers to see what they can teach us.

Raccoon Nation:

We have probably all seen raccoons, but do we truly understand how intelligent they may be? Learn about studies that are looking at their adaptability and the sometimes destructive consequences.

As America’s first professionally trained forester, Gifford Pinchot worked to protect natural resources for “the greatest good, for the greatest number, in the long run.” Come enjoy this insightful look at an important Pennsylvanian.
