CLEARFIELD – Disposing of expired, unused medication just got a lot easier in Clearfield County.
At Thursday’s meeting, Police Chief Vince McGinnis told the Clearfield Borough Council that the police department has recently received a collection box for unused or expired medications.
McGinnis said the Clearfield Jefferson Drug and Alcohol Task Force and the Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office worked together to secure a grant. The grant will provide the drug collection boxes to all local police departments in the county.
McGinnis said the boxes will allow residents to dispose of the unused medication at any time and is building on the success of the annual “Drug Take-back Days.”
“The residents can drop their medications off at any time, instead of having to wait for a specific day and time once or twice a year,” McGinnis said.
McGinnis said residents can come to the police department between the hours of 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday through Friday to dispose of their expired or unused medication.
McGinnis said to his knowledge, the boxes have been received by Clearfield Borough, Lawrence Township, DuBois City, Sandy Township and West Decatur and more are expected to be delivered to the remaining police departments in the county.
McGinnis said the department also has a container for the disposal of syringes.
