CLEARFIELD – National Senior Center Month is celebrated every year in September.
The national celebration theme this year is: Find Balance at your Center. This year’s theme highlights the many ways individuals find balance and whole person wellness at senior centers.
During National Senior Center Month, the managers at the Centers for Active Living in Clearfield County want to get it out to the public – who they are, what they do and what’s available to get people interested in coming and getting involved one way or another with the center.
September is also Falls Prevention month. The centers will offer opportunities during this month to raise awareness about how to prevent fall-related injuries among older adults. The theme of this year’s event is Ready, Steady, Balance: Prevent Falls in 2016.
“While senior centers still offer the simple comforts like hot meals daily, they’ve become much more than a meal site. There is so much more to a center for active living,” states Rikki Ross, director of marketing and planning for the CCAAA.
“The visiting and socialization that goes on is very important to people. Many people have lost a spouse or loved one, and this is like a big family. And, like any family, it’s important for every member to have plenty of activities to participate in.”
Managers focus on keeping seniors active and involved by offering different types of exercise programs, activities to promote healthy brains, encouraging individual or group involvement in the community and promoting volunteer opportunities.
“Come to one of the Centers for Active Living in Clearfield County and help celebrate the national theme of Find Balance at your Center,” s Ross said. Some of the special activities during the month of September are:
