William W. “Bill” Shimmel Jr., 64, of Clearfield went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born Sept. 3, 1952 to William W. and Sandra (Robb) Shimmel. He was married to Susan (Bailey) Shimmel on Sept. 1, 1973.
He was the father of Jolene Rosinsky and Carly Starkey and the father-in-law of William Rosinsky and John Starkey. He was the proud grandfather of his seven grandsons and one granddaughter, Landan, Lily, Kyler, Sloan and Spencer Rosinsky and Chester, Bailey and James Starkey.
He was the brother of Victoria Miller, Douglas (Carol) Shimmel, David (Paula) Shimmel, Valerie (Ron) Shaw, Jeffrey Shimmel, Donnie (Cindy) Shimmel and Vanessa (Larry) Martin. He was also the son-in-law of Joline (Greene) Bailey and the late Chester D. Bailey Jr.
Mr. Shimmel graduated from the Clearfield Area High School in the class of 1970 and Penn State University in the class of 1976. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a radio operator in the Vietnam War from 1971-72.
As a mechanical engineer by trade, he worked in that field for a number of years. His passion was teaching architectural design for the past 20 years and retiring in 2015 from SCI Houtzdale as a CAD instructor.
He served on the Clearfield area school board and the Lawrence Township Planning Committee. He volunteered with the Clearfield Area High School Girls Softball team and played for the Old Town Fast Pitch Softball League for many years.
As an active member of Centre Grove United Methodist Church, he was a Lay speaker, Promise Keeper, youth leader and Sunday school teacher. He also taught the Disciple Bible Study and was involved in various committees.
Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday and from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 4 p.m. Saturday at Centre Grove United Methodist Church, 1100 Village Rd., Clearfield. A dinner will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to Centre Grove United Methodist Church.
