HYDE — The Clearfield High School junior varsity football team opened the season Monday evening with a convincing 32-8 win over the DuBois Beavers on the turf at the Bison Sports Complex.
The Bison were up 13-0 before their offense ever took the field.
After the Beavers’ opening drive stalled, Logan Stover returned a blocked punt 19 yards for a touchdown. The second Beaver drive ended with a Bret Zattoni “pick-6” for 27 yards and a 13-0 lead after the Ryan Lazauskas PAT.
Zattoni added an offensive TD to up the score to 20-0 after another Lazauskas PAT.
DuBois got on the board, but the Bison answered before the half on a short TD plunge by Taye Lynch, which set the halftime score at 26-8.
After a scoreless third quarter, Spencer Graham ran an interception back for a TD to set the final score.
Clearfieldf (1-0) will back in action on Saturday morning when the make the short trek to Curwensville to face the Tide in a 10:00 a.m. game at Riverside Stadium.
