Frank A. “Bucky” Catherine, 90, of Philipsburg died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.
Born Aug. 14, 1926, he was the son of Anthony Catherine and Anna (Lepree) Catherine Price.
On July 14, 1951 in Philipsburg, he married Mary E. (Goss) Catherine, who preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2014.
He joined the U.S. Navy on Nov. 30, 1944. He was assigned to the USS MacKenzie during World War II. He received an honorable discharge on June 4, 1946.
He was a blaster with Gulf Oil and the owner of the former Catherine’s Market in Philipsburg.
He was a life member of the Philipsburg BPO Elk Lodge No. 1173 and the Hungry Club. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and enjoyed flying.
He leaves behind his son, Michael Catherine and his fiancée, Carla Dixon of Glass City and his daughter, Lee Ann and her husband, Richard G. Sabella of Philipsburg.
He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Richard L. Sabella and his wife, Kristin of Houtzdale, Holly Sabella and her fiancé, Brandon Kick of Portage, Casey L. Sabella, Tobi M. Catherine, Michael Kowalcyk and Todd Kowalcyk and his wife, Amber, all of Philipsburg.
He was always very proud of all of his grandchildren. He always wanted the best for them and always was giving them the best advice and guidance for a good life.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Jane Kester and Pauline Knapper.
Per his wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral; a memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of his family.
